Cricket is back on the Green.
But, this season's 100% home record on the Green didn’t last long. Following our win against the Nomads on Saturday, the Sunday team were very gracious hosts and let Millfields just about chase down 162. They know how to secure those repeat customers.
We nearly had our first half-century of the year in the first game with Terry and Sreshtjot falling short both on 49. Terry didn’t let this ruin his day though as he did his usual pre-season advert for Keeley “all middle” bats by hitting a few 6s.
Thank you to those who came down to help the club open up for the season during the Grounds day last weekend. Sightscreens, umpires room, nets and more were all sorted ready for the long summer ahead. The support always makes it easier to manage.
The ground is looking great in the sun with fine reviews received from last weekend's opposition. Thanks to Shane, Jamie and Kirby for putting the time in (and any others I may have missed). KP has been welcomed off the plane with a roller and has now taken over.
Cricket continues on the green this week with two more friendlies this weekend - 1s are at home to Hampton Hill on Saturday (2s away) and the Sunday side host Cypos on Sunday. Our first Junior matches are coming soon too.
More great news across the club this week. The club would like to say congratulations to Adam and Justyna who have welcomed little girl Mia into the world - he’s in-line to celebrate with an inspirational spell of off-spin on Sunday.
Also, good luck to Tom Rippon who is running the London Marathon on Sunday. He is running to raise money for cricket charity, the Lord's Taverners. They use cricket events and programmes to give disadvantaged and disabled young people chances to join communities, break down inclusivity barriers and improve their physical health, self esteem and confidence. He would really appreciate any donations, lets see if we can help him hit his target!

Finally, a new fixture has been added to the app for the 5th of May, bank holiday Monday. Please fill out availability if you would like to play in a mixed T20 - all are welcome. The Red Arrows will be flying over Kew Green Monday afternoon as part of the VE Day Celebration in central London and we are putting on the T20 to mark this. The bar will be open and hopefully the sun out, spread the word to anyone who may be able to make it down to watch, play or relax in the sun.

New regular feature Umpires Corner
Kew Cricket Club contains some of the top umpires in the London area - or at least all the bowlers think they are when decisions don’t go their way.
This month we asked Club Treasurer and experienced M2 level umpire Raj for his advice on how to keep the umpires on side this season.
“Kit Kat and a cup of coffee on arrival. Free drinks after the game. Call them sir when you take guard. Really good clubs will get us a selection of sarnies for tea.”
"20 Marlborough Lites on top gets you an LBW or two as well."
There you have it, seems like edible bribes are the best way to last longer in the middle. No need for all those net sessions.
