Kewsletter - April 2026

Kewsletter - April 2026

Daniel Lewis17 Apr - 11:43

Junior Cricket is back this Sunday 10am - sign up now! Who got the most ducks last summer? And, all needed for Works Day, tomorrow morning (18th)

Cricket is nearly back on The Green!

Rollers have been serviced, lawnmower blades sharpened and new signs printed to keep meddling kids off the square. The Green is nearly ready to welcome cricket back. There is even talk of getting the best squash to Barnes for the summer.

This Sunday alongside our first Junior Cricket session (10am start on The Green) we also have a mixer for the juniors and parents after the session at 12 to welcome all to the club and the season!

Just like buses, you wait all winter and two socials come along at once. The evening of the 9th of May we will have our traditional league season opener social with food available, please make every effort to stay around after the matches and welcome new players and members. Watch out in the app and group chats for more information.

We held a successful AGM on the 27th of Feb with strong attendance and plenty for the committee to think about over the next few months. Congratulations to the Elected officials below and thank you for volunteering to help the club:

1st XI Captain: Shane MacDermott
2nd XI Captain: Manpreet Athwal
3rd XI Captain: Nas Khan
4th XI Captain: Peter Brazier
Sunday XI Captain: Suren Sornalingam
Chair: Peter Berg
Treasurer: Raj Patel
Secretary: Shane MacDermott
Fixture Secretary: Dan Lewis

Finally, look out before the league season starts for another piece of pre-season reading. Ever wanted to know how to get the umpire onside? Or even just know a bit more about our Treasurer? We will be hearing from top umpires in our biggest Umpire Special yet.

This Kewsletter covers:

  • Who took the most dives into the duck pond last summer?
  • An overview on how to sign-up for this summer’s Sunday Junior Cricket Mornings. Plus start of season mixer!
  • Membership renewal window now open.
  • Pre-season fixtures and season starting dates! Grounds Day is the 18th of April.
  • Key dates for the diary including Grounds day to set the club up for the new season.
  • Summer nets now starting outside on The Green.

Who made the most splashes in the Pond last summer?

As a reminder, last summer we relaunched the Duck Pond with the aim of raising money for the Sivan Arul Foundation. For every duck, the player had to give £2 to the foundation, or £5 if a golden duck.

Quickfire stats:

Total raised: over £200

Total ducks: 88, across 100 senior matches, nearly 1 averaged per game

Top 3 contributors: The Badger sealed the most ducks with nearly 1 in every 3 games played. But Kirby contributed the most, with more Golden Ducks. 3rd place was a major tie across the club including Crofty, Bax, Gogay, Khurram, Ram and Abhi.

We thank them for the noble contributions and sticking to the Bazball method and being selfless for their teams! Prediction markets have alread y started to open on who might take the prize this year. Note: total revenue less card and Pitchero transaction fees..

Toughest month to bat on the Green: The data showed clear trends - Early season at Kew is a tough time to bat, and that we might need to work on our weaknesses against spin with the ducks picking up again in the dry months.

Junior Cricket is back!

Ready for another Summer on Kew Green?

This season of Sunday Junior Cricket is back from 19 April to 19 July, every week from 10am–12pm on the Green, the best way to spend a summer morning if you ask us!

Open to new players, and those that have already had great summers with us in the past.

After the first training session of the season on 19th April, we’ll be hosting a small parents’ mixer with nibbles and drinks. This will be a great opportunity to meet other parents and hear about everything happening at the club this season.

You can redeem the bar discount either by showing your Pitchero account or by using your membership card you will be able to collect on 19th April.

The mixer will begin immediately after the training session finishes.

If you’re ready to secure a place for another brilliant summer on the Green, you can sign up here:

Grounds Day is the 18th of April.

Cable ties have been bought and a list of jobs is ready for us. There is a lot to do to make sure we can play next weekend.

Please come down from 9.30-10. Should only be a quick few hours if everyone comes!

Bar will also be open from 12 for the Brentford game if you needed any more reasons to help.

Weather is looking great too. A few have plans for a post helping out net too.
